Pronounced "All Better" by the Dept. of Health. Now What?
The County Department of Health called today to pronounce me clean. Just like that, out of the blue! My Order of Isolation is lifted, and I’m free to go to public places where all the rest of you hang out! I honestly feel a bit like I’m still on parole. I need a t-shirt that says, “No reason for concern, neighbor. I’m COVID-free. Read more below on what our neighbors think.
So, here’s the irony: My entire family is still in required self-quarantine for another 6 days. I'll do the math: On the 15th day after I began self-isolating from my family, my family will be released from mandatory quarantine. Barring any symptoms, they’re released to return to work, outings, and mailbox runs in 6 days from now. That’s a rough sentence for a bunch of people who, as far as we know, never even caught the bug. Read on.
I have focused primarily on giving my white blood cells nothing to do besides scour for COVID-19 viruses and gobble them up.

COVID, Day 9: Pronounced well. And Start with Food (4:37)
Lower HBA1C and CRP (C-reactive Protein) levels help to take this virus on, head on.
Heather has been trying to send me back out to enjoy a trail running adventure, but I feel a bit like I’d be abandoning our ship if I were to do so. I feel better about the notion of occasional lifeboat jaunts for bank deposits, grocery runs, gardening supplies. Is that a bit ridiculous? We’ll see, though. I know the well-rounded good that I get from my trail running—it’s my version of the normal person’s golf outing. So a morning mountain run is still on the table, I suppose. Yes, I’m adding a haircut to my list.
Savannah has always set a great example around here with her consistent post-work routine of placing shoe soles in sunlight, washing up, putting clothes in laundry, showering, placing keys, phone and wallet in our UV Scrubber, etc. Even during at-home quarantine she’s been masked whenever I’ve seen her. We’ll continue to be extra vigilant as we emerge from this 2-week quarantine and get back to the normal version of 2020 ;-]
This Happened Today
Our 10-yr-old lit up when he heard I was safe to hug. He didn’t want to let go! This caught me a bit by surprise because he hasn’t talked much about it. It goes to show how little things to the rest of us big people can be monumental in the brain of a 10-yr-old. He and I also conducted another bedtime “meeting of the minds” with his stuffed animals, after a long overdue reuniting.
I have access to all the rooms in our house again. I can hardly wait to unload the dishwasher again! Cooking will be so much easier, too, with more tools than just a backyard camp stove ;-]
What Do the Neighbors Think?
Imagine, if you will, that your next-door neighbor tested COVID-19 positive. Let’s say they moved in around 4 months ago, and you have a cordial relationship, but your kids’ ages don’t really match up. How much time would you spend checking in and chatting on their front lawn, retrieving a ball your kid accidentally kicked over the fence, etc? It’s a complicated question. And we can sense that uncomfortable tension through the hospitable hand waves and shout outs. It’s all good, though, I get where they’re coming from. There’s definitely a notable mood of caution, and I look forward to better bonding on the other side of this quarantine.
Start with Food
I know, I promised a post about food. So here you go. Food is the single most significant factor that I can think of for my mild symptoms and quick recovery from COVID-19. I know that that’s my own opinion and bias, and I will stress again that any 2 people on the exact same diet could easily express different symptoms and degrees of sickness from this virus. I’ve not forgotten that it’s a virus that affects so many body systems that there’s a large margin of viral disparity. Coronavirus is more of a cardiovascular disease and a metabolic disease than it is a respiratory disease. I know as well that bodies with high levels of systemic inflammation, hypertension and metabolic challenges will naturally spread their immune systems thin. I strongly feel that lowering HBA1C and CRP (C-reactive Protein) levels help to take this virus on, head on. Throughout this 2-week process I have focused primarily on giving my white blood cells nothing more important to do than to scour for COVID-19 viruses and gobble them up (or whatever it is that they do to bad stuff). Here’s a table that I built showing foods that I prioritize and avoid, based on the last 3 years of my research on ancestral health practices and, more importantly, through my own experiences:
In short, I had always shopped for my foods based on price per ounce. I now pay $6/dozen for pastured eggs with no 2nd thought over $2/dozen for regular eggs. And though we all have our own limitations as to budgets, geography, access, storage, etc., I’m grateful to have the means to make these decisions that add up over time.
Today's Immune Boosters
I got a dose of natural Vitamin D under noonday sun today. Did you know that 10 minutes can give you 10x better Vitamin D than popping pills? This is an essential vitamin for boosted immunity, cellular wellness, and detoxing. Plus you can actually store enough to get you through the winter months.
Today's Symptoms
I think I caught a whiff of our garage garbage can today, though I can’t be certain. Smell and taste continue to allude me. No other symptoms, though being so active today has be now feeling a bit tired at bedtime. My arm rashes have mostly cleared up. And that’s the report!
What does Oura think?
I'm very pleased that my Oura wearable reported an overall Readiness Score of 90. I seldom see that high of a score, even when I’m free of bacteria and viruses. Yesterday was my most active day of the last 2 weeks, so there must indeed be some good in being active throughout the day. My resting HR was also at its lowest in 2 weeks at 41bpm. Hoping for this continued trend.
