Runners, meet your native energy source—fat
"This is exactly what these crazy racers need to be fueling with," I said to Ross Taylor, co-founder of FBOMB fat fuel at Ragnar Village. Ross introduced me to the perfect assortment of healthy energy shots, including Macadamia Pecan, Salted Chocolate Macadamia, and Macadamia with Coconut. I promised Ross I would give these a try during my events. After all, the best and healthiest metabolizing fats are saturated fats, the kind that take on a solid state at or below room temperature.
I knew I had the real stuff when my Macadamia with Pecan sample pack had hardened up in the 50º morning desert. Not a problem, since I'd be carrying the fuel in my toasty running shorts, and it would be easy to consume whenever I needed it during my 15-mile trail course.

Macadamia is one of the few nuts with healthy medium-chain fatty acids and a higher saturated fat content—around 85% of the total. Healthy-sourced animal fats such as lard and tallow are also great sources of saturated fats. It's true that low-carbohydrate, high-fat diets have been used by endurance athletes to enhance performance, and by non-athletes worldwide to improve health and streamline proper hormonal functions.
Shortly after my 7.5 mile race I downed my Macadamia and Pecan sample pack, a perfect compliment to my health-conscious fueling and exercise regimen that started many months ago.
Back at camp, our resident cook was prepping the griddle for dinner brats. He had his finger on the Canola oil spray can when I got there in the nick of time. In place of the oxidizing and inflammatory synthetic vegetable oil, I oozed the FBOMB Macadamia with Coconut Nut Butter pack onto the warm pan, added a little water, a couple of Teton Waters Ranch Grass-fed Beef Dogs, bite-sized carrots and onion salt. There you have it, a one-of-a-kind taste to a healthy paleo meal.
Nut Butters Work for Me Before, During, and After a race
I was glad to learn later that I could've more appropriately greased the cooking stove with one of the FBOMB Premium Oils, including MCT Premium Oil and Coconut Oil. Wow, they have it all covered!
Ross and Kara, a husband-wife team, are co-founders of Love You Foods and are extremely passionate about helping people be healthy. Ross was great to hook me up with a special link to offer 20% off FBOMB sample packs. What can I say, for a picky guy like me when it comes to fitness fuiling, I'm hooked on these power packets.
On the Trail and In the Kitchen
You better believe I get good use out of these portable nut butters. I always pack one or 2 with me in my 6-gallon lunch bag, and I'll keep a stack in the kitchen at home to add to a paleo fajita mix, a potato salad, a batch of red cabbage and brats...just to name a few. I was most fortunate to run into Ross in Southern Utah, and his brilliant product line, and I'm certain to be fueling (and cooking) with FBOMBs for many races to come.
